Recently came across some interesting stats about the penetration of mobile devices in e-commerce. The data comes from BazaarVoice.com who provide a platform for collecting user generated content (e.g., product ratings, reviews etc) for some of the leading e-commerce sites in the US. - In 2011, 12% of visitors to some of the leading E-commerce sites were from mobile devices. That is up from 5% in 2010.
- Percentage of mobile visits also doubled to 9% in 2011 from 4% in 2010.
- Mobile transaction revenue also tripled to 6% in 2011 from 2% in 2010.
- In Q4-11, iPad accounted for 40% of mobile visits followed by iPhone (30%) and Android phone (25%).
